Supplies

  1. Patch

  2. Garment/item the patch is being pressed onto

    • Iron-on patches work best with materials like cotton and polyester

    • Make sure the garment you are using can withstand the heat

  3. Pressing cloth, handkerchief, cotton pillowcase, parchment paper, to place between patch and iron

  4. Ruler or Tape measure

  5. Iron or Heat Press

  6. Sturdy ironing board or firm surface that can withstand the heat

Preparation

  1. Flip the sequins before applying to verify there are not any mistakes with color, flipping, sequins missing.

    • There may be an extra sequins double stitched in the background. Don’t worry about it if it’s not in the way.

  2. Map out the exact location where you’d like the patch

    • Use a ruler or tape measure to ensure it’s in the right spot, centered, etc

    • Consider pinning the patch in place & checking yourself in the mirror to make sure the patch is in a position you like

    • Skipping this step can result in your hard work going to waste

  3. For Household Iron, use the Viscose/Rayon setting (just below cotton)

    • Make sure the steam setting is OFF for steam irons

  4. For HeatPress, set temperature to 315° degrees

  5. Preheat iron for 5 minutes or heat press for however long it takes to reach desired temperature

  6. Preheat/press the area where the Patch will be applied for approx. 5 seconds

Application

  1. Remove backing on patch (it looks like wax paper)  - A MUST

  2. Place patch on garment

    • Design facing up

    • Positioned exactly where you want it

  3. Place cloth over patch

  4. Press firmly for approx. 15-20 seconds

    • If using an iron, be careful not to move the iron around since this can inadvertently shift the position of the patch

    • If using an iron, repeat until you’ve pressed the entire patch, making sure you cover the edge & corners for each press

    • To get the edges to flatten onto the fabric, immediately after pressing an edge, press it down with the edge of a spoon

  5. If edge of patch can be lifted, GENTLY Flip garment inside out and Repeat the pressing on the edges - (Once the patch is affixed to the fabric)

  6. Let cool
    • Don’t try to lift any edges or corners while hot or warm. It needs to cool.
  7. Once the patch is securely attached to the garment, allow it to cool completely before wearing.
  8. Sequins will be a little stiff to move up and down and will loosen up

Permanence of application is assured by sewing

  1. Sew the top and bottom backing edge, one stitch passed the corner

    • DO NOT Sew the sequins or it will not flip

    • If you don't have any sewing experience you should consult a professional to install your patch.
